Amoxicillin is a penicillin antibiotic used in treating a wide variety of infections such as community acquired pneumonia (CAP), urinary tract infections (UTI), as well as others.
This medication comes in a powder for reconstitutions and tablets. The general dosing in adults is around 500 mg-1000 mg po q8-12h for 5-7 days. Ranges, doses, duration is based on indication and severity of signs and symptoms.
Sixty percent of this drug is excreted through the urine. Amoxicillin has a wide distribution and can be found present in the liver, lungs, ear, and even bone.
When a patient is given a course, it is very important that they complete the full course.
